How Much Should I Spend On A Wedding Ring?Updated 2 years ago

We get asked this question a lot, and we are adamant that there is only one answer; it’s the same one we give to people choosing engagement rings:

However much you feel comfortable and happy spending.

To be honest, that’s our answer to just about any question that begins, “How much should I spend on…?” We encourage each couple to choose what is best for them, and that’s how it should be. At this point, though, we will add a few gentle caveats.

If an engagement ring is an invitation to a shared future, a wedding band is a daily reminder of the vows you make on your wedding day. For many of us, it’s the most precious and sentimental piece of jewelry we own. It is worn daily and rarely taken off. For this reason, while we will never be prescriptive on price, we do make the following recommendations.

Buy the best quality metal you can comfortably afford.

When you remember that you plan on wearing this ring for life, and that it will likely be handed down to your descendants, you may view the investment a little differently. This ring will take on the wear and tear of a well-lived life, and a high-quality precious metal will stand the test of time.

Plan ahead!

Most people will have a period of several months between getting engaged and getting married. Unfortunately, with a long wedding to-do list, some couples leave wedding ring shopping to the end when all the other details are resolved and have just a few weeks to find their rings. Don’t be those people! It will limit what is available to you, and it is a shame to lose out on what you really want due to time constraints. We can and will always work with people on a tight deadline, and we pull out all the stops. But for the widest selection and a stress-free run-up to your happy day, start ring shopping at least three to four months out - longer if you have the luxury. Following on from that…

If possible, don’t rush your decision.

Take the time to find something that you love and that has real significance for you. You’re going to wear it for your lifetime together!
